REBUILD UKRAINIAN WATER AND AGRICULTURE

Support farmers and rural communities in rebuilding and modernising during and after war-damage through the work of the non-profit, Ukraine-based, NGO Primavera.

Primavera is mobilising reform oriented NGO's and independent national experts to create a dialogue with the Ukrainian Government about the desirable water management institutions for the future. Please support this dialogue.

Our new target for this is €40,000.- deadline 31 December 2024

The war is continuing. The irrigation areas in the South are occupied by Russia and the infrastructure has been destroyed (Kakhovka). In the non-occupied areas agricultural production can be increased if investment in water infrastructure (irrigation and drainage) are made. The Government has no money for this (priority is given to defending the country against Russia and its drones and rockets). Primavera noticed that farmers are willing to invest in water infrastructure if they can benefit and have a say in its use. This needs a good institutional setting. At present the water infrastructure is still property of the Government. A national discussion is ongoing how national and local water management should be organized. One of the (undesirable) options is privatisation through which the risk of a monopoly would be created.
